The term "complete fertilizer" is often applied to them on account of the fact that they contain all three of the most essential fertilizing constituents, and their range of adaptability is, in consequence, much greater than that of any of the partial manures. As might be supposed, there is great diversity'in the composition of fertilizers of this class, both as regards the proportions of their fertilizing ingredients and also the forms in which they are supplied, the quantities of these essential constituents being so regulated as to correspond with the manufacturer's ideas as to the demands of our principal crops. Acid Phosphates, or Superphosphates, contain only one fertilizing constituent of value, viz: Phosphoric Acid, but this ingredient is almost invariably present in three forms. Fertilizers of this class are produced by the action of sulphuric acid upon insoluble phosphates, a large proportion of the Phosphorie Acid beisg thus rendered soluble, aud consequently much more readily assimilable by the plant.
